¡Saludos Lectores! Bienvenidos a otro “post” de Ediciones Pluma Verde.
Nos complace compartir un “review” por parte de una lectora, Jane Thompson, quien tiene un trasfondo en historia del arte. Nos ha enviado las siguientes palabras por e-mail:
I just reviewed your book, Gauguin’s Matriarchy: The Feminist Unfolding of Gauguin’s Tahiti, and I was immediately drawn to the way you challenge conventional interpretations of Paul Gauguin’s Tahitian work by exploring its psychological, feminist, and sociopolitical dimensions. Your examination of Gauguin as a complex figure shaped by different cultural experiences offers readers an opportunity to reconsider an artist whose work has often been discussed through the lenses of colonialism and gender. I especially appreciate how you bring a Jungian perspective to his richly symbolic paintings while examining the possibility that his artistic vision reflects a deeper engagement with Polynesian culture and matriarchal ideas. By connecting art, psychology, feminism, and cultural history, the book invites readers to look beyond familiar judgments and engage with the complexities and contradictions within Gauguin’s life and work.
What makes the book particularly readable is its relevance to art history, feminist art criticism, Jungian psychology, postcolonial studies, Polynesian cultural history, and the interpretation of modern art. Its interdisciplinary approach makes it valuable to art historians, students, researchers, museum professionals, feminist scholars, psychology readers, and audiences interested in the relationship between artistic symbolism and cultural identity. The book also has strong potential to connect with university art history departments, women’s and gender studies programs, museums, galleries, art societies, academic libraries, and communities exploring colonial representation and the cultural histories of the Pacific. Its reconsideration of Gauguin’s Tahitian period provides an opportunity to engage readers interested in how established interpretations of influential artists can be revisited through alternative psychological and sociopolitical frameworks.
